Role Overview for High Voltage Electrician Jobs in Solwezi

The primary responsibility of the HV / Auto-Electrical Technician is to perform diagnostics, inspections, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, commissioning support, and electrical system verification within the workshop environment. The role ensures all electrical, electronic, control, monitoring, communication, and high voltage systems are maintained according to Hitachi Construction Machinery Zambia (HCMZ) standards, OEM specifications, and safety regulations to optimize equipment performance and availability.

Key Responsibilities

• Electrical Diagnostics & Troubleshooting: Use OEM diagnostic tools to identify faults, interpret schematics and fault codes, troubleshoot CANBUS communication, and perform root cause analysis on electrical issues.
• High Voltage System Maintenance: Inspect, maintain, and repair high voltage systems on EH4000AC Dump Trucks, including HV isolation procedures and verification testing.
• Electrical Repairs & Component Replacement: Repair or replace electrical harnesses, sensors, relays, controllers, and battery systems, ensuring functional testing and verification before equipment release.
• Preventative Maintenance: Conduct scheduled inspections and preventative maintenance in line with OEM service programs to maintain optimal machine condition.
• Electronic Control Systems: Support calibration, controller setup, software verification, and maintenance of electronic control systems.
• Safety Compliance: Adhere to all high voltage safety protocols, perform risk assessments, apply Lock-Out/Tag-Out procedures, and comply with HCMZ and statutory safety standards.
• Documentation & Reporting: Accurately complete work orders, inspection reports, and maintain audit-ready maintenance records.
• Continuous Improvement: Participate in reliability initiatives, root cause investigations, and recommend maintenance process enhancements.

Qualifications and Experience

• Full Grade 12 Certificate is mandatory.
• Advanced Certificate in Auto Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Heavy Equipment Electrical Systems, or a related field is required.
• A Diploma in Electrical Engineering and High Voltage certification or relevant electrical safety training are advantageous.
• Minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience in heavy equipment electrical maintenance and repairs.
• Proven ability to diagnose electrical and electronic faults on heavy machinery.
• Competency in interpreting electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Experience with Hitachi EH4000AC Dump Trucks and EX5600 Excavators is a distinct advantage.
• Valid, unendorsed manual driver’s license.
