About Kaltire Zambia and the Role
Kaltire Zambia operates a network of branches focused on excellence in tyre retail and servicing. The Health and Safety Officer will play a pivotal role in developing, implementing, and monitoring occupational health and safety (OHS) systems at our Mazabuka location. This position ensures compliance with Zambian OHS legislation and fosters a safe working environment for employees, customers, and all stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities of the Health and Safety Officer
- Develop, implement, and regularly review the branch’s OHS management system and safety policies.
- Conduct safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments throughout the workplace.
- Investigate incidents, near-misses, and accidents, preparing comprehensive reports with corrective measures.
- Lead safety inductions, toolbox talks, and ongoing training programs for staff.
- Ensure full compliance with Zambia’s Occupational Health and Safety Act and related regulations.
- Maintain accurate OHS documentation, records, and registers.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies and manage statutory reporting obligations.
- Identify and control hazards specific to tyre service operations.
- Promote a proactive safety culture at all organizational levels.
- Monitor the proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Prepare and submit monthly health and safety reports to branch management.
Qualifications and Experience Required
- Minimum Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) – mandatory.
- Degree in OHS or related field – considered an advantage.
- At least 3 years of practical experience in an OHS role.
- Experience in the tyre service or automotive industry for a minimum of 1 year is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of Zambian OHS legislation and best practices.
- Excellent report writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite and general computer literacy.
- Sober, reliable, self-motivated, with a proactive approach to workplace safety.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Availability to begin employment immediately upon appointment.
