About the Role: Grower Agriculture Manager Jobs in Mazabuka

Reporting directly to the Agriculture Director, the Grower Agriculture Manager will oversee the grower agriculture function at the Nakambala estate. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing long-term cane supply plans, ensuring efficient coordination of cane deliveries, and maintaining strong relationships with growers and key stakeholders. This role demands a leader who can drive operational excellence, foster talent development, and ensure sustainable cane supply at optimal cost and quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and regularly update the long-term cane supply plan, implementing initiatives to meet strategic objectives.
  • Coordinate equitable and timely cane supply to the mill, minimizing stoppages except for weather-related delays, and maximizing plant crushing capacity and overall time efficiency.
  • Produce accurate crop forecasts based on strategic analysis of growing areas, considering environmental and socio-political factors.
  • Build and mentor a high-performing leadership team and talent pipeline within the grower agriculture function.
  • Implement rigorous performance management practices, rewarding strong performance and ensuring compliance with critical behaviors.
  • Drive operational excellence by balancing cost, quality, and sustainability in cane supply.
  • Ensure adherence to group standards for cane supply management and grower relationship support.
  • Collaborate with group counterparts to identify and implement optimization opportunities.
  • Manage relationships with growers, stakeholders, and third-party suppliers effectively.
  • Report regularly on cane supply and grower performance to Nakambala Leadership and One Centre Agriculture.
  • Develop business cases for key projects and innovations, ensuring timely delivery of outcomes.
  • Maintain a comprehensive cane production and grower relationship management database.
  • Promote knowledge sharing and best practices within the function through the One Centre platform.
  • Adhere strictly to Illovo’s policies, including SHERQ, Competition Law, and Anti-Bribery and Corruption guidelines.
  • Monitor key performance indicators to track progress and address issues proactively.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Grade 12 School Certificate.
  • A degree in Agriculture or an equivalent qualification.
  • At least 8 years of experience in sugarcane agricultural operations, grower liaison, and cane supply management is preferred.
  • Strong skills in stakeholder engagement and relationship management.
  • Good business acumen combined with agricultural expertise, with the ability to anticipate and respond to changes affecting the function.
  • A formal business or commercial qualification is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in agricultural data analysis.
