About the Fleet Controller Role

As a Fleet Controller, you will play a critical role in overseeing the smooth operation of transport activities within Zambia and across the SADC region. Your responsibilities will include real-time vehicle tracking, coordinating dispatch and scheduling, and maintaining clear communication with drivers to ensure timely deliveries and compliance with international regulations.

Key Responsibilities for Fleet Controller Jobs in Lusaka

• Monitor fleet vehicles in real time using GPS and tracking systems to ensure route adherence and safety.
• Coordinate daily dispatch, international routing, and scheduling to optimize cross-border operations and reduce costs.
• Maintain ongoing communication with drivers regarding delivery instructions, border clearance, route changes, and regional alerts.
• Accurately record and audit vehicle movements, trip details, fuel usage, and driver activities.
• Ensure timely submission of all required local and international trip documents, including Proof of Deliveries, customs paperwork, and fuel receipts.
• Promptly report and log operational incidents such as vehicle breakdowns, border delays, and accidents to senior management.
• Schedule and coordinate routine vehicle maintenance, servicing, and international compliance certifications to minimize downtime.
• Enforce driver compliance with company policies and regional transport regulations, including RTSA and SADC protocols.
• Liaise with customers and clearing agents to provide accurate shipment updates and coordinate delivery schedules.
• Maintain up-to-date fleet records, update internal systems, and provide standby or after-hours support as required.

Qualifications and Experience Required

• Education: Diploma or Degree in Logistics, Transport Management, Supply Chain, or a related commercial field.
• Experience: 2 to 3 years of practical experience in fleet tracking and dispatching, with direct involvement in cross-border transport within the SADC region.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency with GPS fleet tracking software, fuel management systems, corridor mapping tools, and Microsoft Excel.
• Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of Zambian road transport laws, RTSA standards, COMESA/SADC cross-border regulations, and customs procedures.
• Personal Attributes: Excellent communication skills, ability to manage drivers professionally, and strong problem-solving capabilities under pressure.
• Flexibility: Willingness to provide after-hours or standby support in line with international transit requirements.
