Zambia National Education Coalition (ZANEC), a respected coalition of 97 non-state actors dedicated to advancing quality and inclusive education in Zambia, is seeking a qualified Finance Officer to join its Finance team in Lusaka. This contract position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the financial management and compliance of an organization that champions education policy research, advocacy, and capacity building within the education sector.
About the Finance Officer Role
Reporting directly to the Finance and Administration Manager, the Finance Officer will be responsible for executing a broad range of financial functions. The role ensures adherence to ZANEC’s financial policies and procedures while providing efficient financial support across all organizational departments.
Key Responsibilities for Finance Officer Jobs in Lusaka
- Receipt and accurate recording of all incoming funds and unspent project advances in a timely manner.
- Conduct surprise petty cash counts regularly to maintain accountability.
- Verify that all expenses are properly documented and supported.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including reports for cooperating partners.
- Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and variance analyses for each account and donor.
- Perform monthly aged debtor analyses and maintain the Fixed Asset Register.
- Ensure daily entry of all financial transactions into the accounting system.
- Prepare management and contractual financial reports promptly.
- Manage monthly payroll processing.
- Support procurement processes in line with ZANEC policies to ensure timely acquisition of goods and services.
- Conduct financial analysis of transactions by program and donor.
- Prepare statutory financial submissions in compliance with Zambian laws.
- Ensure accurate recording of staff retirements in the accounting system.
- Maintain secure and well-organized accounting records in both digital and physical formats.
- Assist auditors by providing requested information and documentation.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Experience Required
- ACCA II, ZICA II, or an equivalent professional accounting qualification.
- Registration with the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants is mandatory.
- Minimum of four years’ experience in a similar financial role.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, with practical knowledge of accounting packages such as Pastel Accounting.
- Strong financial analysis skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Experience working within an NGO environment is an advantage.
- Hands-on experience with administrative functions.
- Highly motivated with strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize multiple tasks independently.
