As Finance Manager, you will lead the financial strategy and management of the School, ensuring robust controls and compliance while supporting sustainable growth. This full-time position based in Lusaka, Zambia, requires a hands-on leader who can manage budgeting, forecasting, reporting, treasury, and audit processes with precision.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise senior leadership and the Board Finance & Revenue Committee on financial strategy, risk, and sustainability.
- Lead annual budgeting, rolling forecasts, cash-flow planning, and long-term financial planning.
- Prepare timely management accounts, financial statements, variance analyses, and executive reports.
- Oversee year-end reporting, external audits, and ensure prompt implementation of audit recommendations.
- Maintain strong internal controls across income, expenditure, procurement, payroll, banking, assets, and reporting.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, taxation, and statutory obligations.
- Manage tuition billing, receivables, credit control, supplier payments, refunds, and related financial processes.
- Administer treasury functions, liquidity management, banking arrangements, reserves, and foreign currency exposure.
- Oversee payroll controls, statutory deductions, and collaboration with Human Resources on employee financial data.
- Maintain the fixed-asset register and controls over acquisition, custody, depreciation, insurance, and disposal.
- Lead and develop the finance team, fostering accountability, accuracy, and professional service standards.
- Enhance financial systems, reporting tools, data integrity, and process efficiency.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline, plus a professional accountancy qualification such as CA Zambia, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent recognised by ZICA.
- Current membership in the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA).
- Minimum of ten years progressive post-qualification experience in accounting and financial management.
- At least five years in a senior financial leadership role with organisation-wide responsibility.
- Proven experience leading and developing finance teams.
- Strong background advising executive leadership and/or governing boards.
- Expertise in budgeting, forecasting, management accounts, cash-flow management, annual financial statements, and external audits.
- Thorough knowledge of financial controls, taxation, payroll, statutory reporting, and accounting standards.
- Experience managing large organisational budgets and complex revenue and expenditure streams.
- Advanced skills in financial systems, spreadsheet analysis, and management reporting.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to produce clear financial commentary and recommendations independently.
- A relevant master’s degree and/or experience in a multicultural environment is advantageous.
