About the Farm Manager Role

The Farm Manager will take full responsibility for the day-to-day management of the pig farm operations, ensuring productivity improvements, animal welfare, and cost-effective processes. The successful candidate will lead a team of farm workers, oversee breeding and feeding programmes, and maintain strict biosecurity and health standards to safeguard livestock.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, supervise, and coordinate all daily activities on the pig farm.
• Manage breeding, farrowing, weaning, feeding, and growth programmes to optimise livestock performance.
• Monitor animal health, mortality rates, and average market weights to maintain high standards.
• Keep detailed records of births, deaths, treatments, feed consumption, and livestock sales.
• Implement and enforce biosecurity, hygiene, and disease prevention protocols.
• Collaborate with veterinary professionals to manage vaccinations and respond to disease outbreaks.
• Supervise farm staff, assign daily tasks, and monitor attendance and performance.
• Manage inventory including feed, medication, and equipment to ensure availability and cost control.
• Prepare and oversee farm budgets, controlling production costs and minimising waste.
• Ensure maintenance of farm infrastructure, machinery, and equipment.
• Compile weekly and monthly production and financial reports for senior management.
• Ensure compliance with animal welfare, environmental, health, and safety regulations.
• Recommend operational improvements to enhance productivity and profitability.

Qualifications and Experience

• Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Animal Science, Veterinary Science, Farm Management, or related fields.
• Minimum of five years’ experience in farm management, preferably with commercial pig or livestock operations.
• Strong knowledge of animal health, nutrition, breeding, and biosecurity practices.
• Proven leadership skills with experience supervising farm employees and managing schedules.
• Competent in maintaining accurate records for livestock, inventory, and finances.
• Basic proficiency in farm budgeting and cost control.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and record-management systems.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays as required.
• A valid driver’s licence is advantageous.
• High levels of integrity, accountability, and attention to detail.
