Our client, a well-established and progressive commercial farming enterprise located in Zambia’s Mkushi Farm Block, is looking to appoint a Junior or Senior Farm Manager to become a vital part of their experienced management team.

About the Farm Manager Role in Mkushi

This full-time position involves supporting the day-to-day management of an extensive 4,000-hectare diversified cropping operation. The farm produces seed maize, commercial maize, wheat, soya beans, cover crops, and onions. The successful candidate will play a key role in overseeing the production, storage, and marketing of onions during the horticultural season, while also contributing to the broader cropping programme throughout the year.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with planning and implementing commercial cropping programmes.
• Support onion production cycles including harvesting, storage, and marketing.
• Manage field operations such as planting, irrigation, fertiliser application, and crop protection.
• Monitor crop performance and suggest improvements to optimise yields.
• Supervise, motivate, and lead farm employees effectively.
• Assist with machinery planning and operational logistics.
• Maintain accurate production and operational records.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
• Collaborate closely with the management team to meet production targets.

Qualifications and Experience

• Diploma or Degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Crop Production, Horticulture, or related fields.
• Proven practical experience in commercial farming operations.
• Experience with horticultural production, especially onions, is highly advantageous.
• Strong understanding of commercial farming systems within Africa.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
• Hands-on, proactive approach with strong problem-solving capabilities.
• Preferred candidates will have between 5 to 10 years of commercial farming experience.
