About the Electrician Role

The Electrician will be responsible for drafting and interpreting blueprints that detail the layout and orientation of electrical systems, wiring, and circuitry. The role involves performing preventative, corrective, and routine maintenance on mining machinery and industrial equipment, ensuring all tasks are completed to the highest standards with strict adherence to safety procedures and hazard identification.

Key Responsibilities

• Assemble, test, install, and maintain electrical appliances, equipment, and fixtures.
• Diagnose causes of system and equipment failures and perform repairs including wiring replacement.
• Read and interpret blueprints and electrical schematics accurately.
• Advise management on potential hazards related to critical electrical systems.
• Inspect and test plant electrical components such as fuses, transformers, and circuit breakers.
• Execute electrical maintenance, installation, and repairs to ensure efficient operation.
• Identify and resolve electrical breakdowns and perform corrective maintenance at assigned sites.
• Test circuit continuity using appropriate measurement tools.
• Connect power cables and install grounding leads safely.
• Perform physically demanding tasks including digging ditches and lifting heavy equipment.
• Document all repairs and modifications thoroughly.
• Design and install indoor and outdoor electrical control, wiring, and lighting systems.

Skills and Attributes Required for Electrician Jobs in Lusaka

• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with both skilled and unskilled tradespeople.
• Competence in running conduit and electrical installations.
• Team-oriented with excellent time-management abilities.
• Working knowledge of programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications and Experience

• Full Grade 12 School Certificate.
• Craft Certificate in Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution or college.
• At least 3 years of industrial electrical experience.
• Minimum of 1 year electrical experience in mining or construction environments is advantageous.
• Completion of OSHA 10- or 30-Hour Training and Safety certification.
• Knowledge of building and fire safety codes, and experience with new construction, renovations, and historical restorations.
• Familiarity with energy-efficient products and the National Electric Code, including state and local building codes.
• Membership in the Engineering Institute of Zambia is preferred.
