Position Overview: Electrical Technician

Reporting directly to the Civil Engineer, the Electrical Technician will be responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and optimization of solar-powered water pumping systems and associated electrical infrastructure. This fixed-term contract position spans twelve months and focuses on ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation of solar-powered piped water systems.

Key Responsibilities for Electrical Technician Jobs in Petauke

• Perform scheduled preventive and corrective maintenance on solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, pumps, motors, controllers, switchgear, and electrical distribution networks.
• Inspect, maintain, and repair electrical systems supporting water supply and sanitation infrastructure, ensuring proper wiring, grounding, and electrical protection.
• Diagnose faults in solar PV systems using specialized testing equipment and optimize system performance through Remote Monitoring Unit (RMU) data analysis.
• Support integration and calibration of RMUs to guarantee accurate remote data transmission.
• Assist with operation and maintenance of borehole pumps, submersible pumps, booster pumps, and water treatment equipment.
• Conduct safety inspections and enforce compliance with electrical safety standards, national codes, and organizational policies.
• Provide technical support and mentoring to field personnel, including Circuit Riders and Area Pump Minders, on electrical fault detection and resolution.
• Maintain detailed maintenance logs, inspection reports, and service records within a centralized asset management system.

Qualifications and Experience

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, Electromechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Three to five years of relevant experience in electrical maintenance, with a strong preference for expertise in solar-powered water pumping systems.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize solar PV systems, pumps, controllers, and electrical distribution systems, ideally within the WASH sector.
• Experience with water supply infrastructure such as boreholes, solar pumping stations, or water treatment facilities is highly advantageous.
• Familiarity with Remote Monitoring Unit (RMU) systems or similar telemetry platforms is a plus.
• Membership in the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) is required.
