The Radiation Protection Authority (RPA), a regulatory body under the Ministry of Technology and Science, invites qualified professionals to apply for the position of Director Legal Services based in Lusaka, Zambia. This role is essential in ensuring the Authority’s compliance with legal frameworks and safeguarding its interests in all regulatory matters related to ionising radiation.

About Radiation Protection Authority

Established under the Ionising Radiation Protection Act No. 16 of 2005 and its Amendment Act No. 19 of 2011, the RPA is mandated to protect the public, workers, and the environment from hazards associated with ionising radiation. The Authority seeks a dedicated legal expert to lead its Legal Services Unit, providing strategic direction and oversight.

Key Responsibilities for Director Legal Services Jobs in Lusaka

• Manage secretariat services to the Board, ensuring efficient and compliant governance processes.
• Provide authoritative legal advice to ensure operations conform to applicable laws and regulations.
• Lead and oversee litigation and dispute resolution, including arbitration, mediation, and negotiation, protecting the Authority’s interests.
• Conduct and supervise legal research and analysis to support informed decision-making.
• Draft and review legal documents to ensure legal conformity and safeguard the Authority’s rights.
• Review administrative policies for legal compliance and implement performance management systems within the unit.
• Manage human, financial, and other resources effectively to achieve the unit’s objectives.

Qualifications and Experience

• Full Grade Twelve School Certificate.
• Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognized university.
• Master of Laws (LLM) in Nuclear Law or equivalent qualification.
• Advocate of the High Court and member of the Law Association of Zambia with a valid practising certificate.
• Minimum of ten (10) years relevant legal experience, including at least five (5) years in a managerial role.
