Conservation South Luangwa (CSL) invites applications for the position of Data Manager based at the CSL Head Office in Mfuwe, Zambia. About Conservation South Luangwa and the Data Manager Role

Since 2003, CSL has partnered with Zambia’s Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW) to safeguard wildlife and habitats across South Luangwa National Park and surrounding Game Management Areas. The Data Manager will play a pivotal role in strengthening the collection, management, and analysis of critical data that supports law enforcement and human-wildlife conflict (HWC) operations.

Reporting to the Head of Data and Technology and as a member of the Middle Management Team, the Data Manager will collaborate closely with the CEO, Head of Resource Protection, DNPW officers, and CSL field teams to ensure data integrity and operational effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities for Data Manager Jobs in Mfuwe

• Data Systems and Quality Management: Develop and maintain reliable data systems, coordinate SMART patrol debriefs, ensure timely and accurate data submission, and manage digital data-collection devices and equipment inventories.
• Data Analysis, Mapping, and Reporting: Analyze conservation and law enforcement data using Microsoft Excel, GIS platforms, and other tools to generate actionable insights, maps, dashboards, and reports for operational planning and donor reporting.
• Team Support and Capacity Building: Provide training and technical support to DNPW and CSL field teams, develop user guides and SOPs, and conduct field visits to support data verification and equipment maintenance.
• Data Security: Ensure sensitive law-enforcement and HWC information is managed securely and confidentially in compliance with organizational procedures.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
• Proficient in advanced Microsoft Excel, including formulas, charts, and dashboards, with strong general IT skills.
• Experience in data management, analysis, quality assurance, and monitoring & evaluation (M&E).
• Familiarity with SMART, GIS, GPS, and digital data-collection systems is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of QGIS, ArcGIS, Google Earth, Kobo Toolbox, Power BI, R, Python, or SQL is an advantage.
• Experience working with government agencies, conservation organizations, or operational field teams is preferred.
• Strong report writing and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate technical data to non-technical audiences.
• Willingness and ability to travel regularly to remote field locations under challenging conditions.
• A valid manual driver’s license and passport are advantageous.
