Role Overview for Customs Compliance Specialist Jobs in Kalumbila
Reporting directly to the Regulatory Affairs Manager, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the company’s adherence to all customs, import, export, and trade-related regulations. Your expertise will support Lumwana Mining Company Limited’s customs compliance functions, safeguarding regulatory conformity and optimizing operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Review monthly customs declarations and documentation to verify accuracy and regulatory compliance.
- Validate tariff classifications, customs values, duty treatments, and eligibility for customs incentives on imports and exports.
- Identify and monitor customs compliance risks, recommending mitigation strategies.
- Investigate compliance incidents, determine root causes, and propose corrective actions.
- Track customs compliance performance and suggest process improvements.
- Support customs planning for capital projects, equipment imports, and operational needs.
- Manage customs incentives including APC approvals, duty exemptions, rebates, and VAT deferment arrangements.
- Maintain accurate records of customs authorizations, permits, and correspondence.
- Ensure customs transactions are processed and reconciled in ASYCUDA World, Smart Invoicing, SAP, and related systems.
- Prepare detailed customs compliance reports for management review.
- Assist with customs audits, inspections, and regulatory documentation.
- Provide technical guidance on customs requirements, tariff classification, valuation, and import/export procedures.
- Contribute to the development and enhancement of customs compliance frameworks, policies, and controls.
- Monitor legislative changes impacting customs and international trade, assessing operational effects.
- Maintain strong relationships with the Zambia Revenue Authority Customs Division and other government agencies.
- Coordinate responses to customs queries, rulings, and regulatory reviews.
- Support broader regulatory engagement initiatives under the Regulatory Affairs Manager’s leadership.
Candidate Profile and Qualifications
- Minimum Grade 12 School Certificate.
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, International Trade, Law, Business Administration, Accounting, or related disciplines.
- 5 to 7 years of relevant experience in customs compliance, international trade, freight forwarding, or logistics.
- In-depth knowledge of Zambia Revenue Authority customs procedures, tariff classifications, duty treatments, and rules of origin.
- Proven experience managing customs audits, incentives, duty exemptions, and regulatory compliance.
- Hands-on expertise with ASYCUDA World, Smart Invoicing, and other customs management systems.
- Experience in the mining, energy, or manufacturing sectors is advantageous.
- Strong understanding of regulatory compliance and risk management within the mining industry.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- High integrity and professional judgment with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
