This role is critical in safeguarding portfolio quality through prudent credit decisions and meticulous coordination of employer payroll deductions, aligning with company policy and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities for Credit Officer Jobs in Lusaka

  • Credit Assessment & Decision-Making: Evaluate loan applications for authenticity, compliance with company policies, and potential fraud risks. Conduct affordability assessments and debt-to-income analyses to prevent client over-indebtedness. Approve loans within delegated authority or recommend restructuring or decline with documented justification. Escalate high-value or exceptional cases to the Credit Manager.
  • Employer Payroll Coordination: Prepare and submit accurate deduction schedules including client details such as Name, NRC, Payroll Number, Amount, and Tenure to employer HR or Payroll departments. Confirm receipt and follow up to ensure deductions are properly loaded into employer systems. Resolve payroll rejections promptly to avoid missed repayments and maintain an up-to-date employer submission register.
  • Portfolio Monitoring & Risk Management: Monitor repayment performance and track Portfolio at Risk (PAR) trends. Identify early warning signs of default and collaborate closely with the Collections team on high-risk accounts. Recommend adjustments to credit criteria based on portfolio performance insights.
  • Compliance & Reporting: Maintain audit-ready files ensuring strict confidentiality of client data. Prepare weekly and monthly reports covering approval ratios, decline reasons, and submission logs. Ensure all credit activities comply with Zambian lending regulations and internal controls.
