About Anzana Electric Group and the Project
Anzana Electric Group, formerly Virunga Power Holdings Limited, is a private renewable energy company dedicated to developing and operating sustainable power generation and distribution projects in rural Sub-Saharan Africa. The Zengamina Power Limited (ZPL) subsidiary operates a 700kW run-of-river hydropower plant near the Angola border, supplying electricity to Zengamina Mission Hospital and surrounding communities via a mini grid connected to the national grid.
The current expansion project includes installing an additional 700kW hydro-turbine, constructing a 1.44MWdc/1.2MWac solar photovoltaic (PV) plant with a 0.4/33kV substation, and upgrading the hydropower plant’s control systems. This project is the first phase of a broader investment initiative by Anzana in Zambia.
Role Overview: Construction Site Manager
The Construction Site Manager will oversee project and contract management, coordinating closely with the Employer’s off-site team and the Engineering Services Consultant. This hands-on role requires full-time on-site presence to supervise construction activities, manage contractors, and ensure compliance with budget, schedule, and quality standards.
Key responsibilities include planning and monitoring project schedules, enforcing rigorous quality control and assurance, administering contract provisions, and fostering a strong safety culture in compliance with the Environmental and Safety Management Plan (ESMP).
Key Responsibilities for Construction Site Manager Jobs in Kalene Hill
- Serve as the Employer’s primary on-site representative, overseeing all construction activities and coordinating contractors, subcontractors, and site personnel.
- Maintain continuous on-site presence during active construction, participate in daily meetings, and ensure adherence to approved designs, specifications, and safety protocols.
- Prepare weekly progress reports for management detailing construction status and contractor performance.
- Plan and direct all construction activities, leading the Employer’s site staff and coordinating multiple contractors to avoid conflicts and delays.
- Review and approve contractors’ method statements and job safety analyses in collaboration with the engineering consultant.
- Identify risks, maintain a risk matrix, and implement corrective actions to prevent delays, cost overruns, or quality compromises.
- Administer contract-related matters including claims, variations, and payment certifications alongside the engineering services consultant.
- Enforce strict compliance with Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) standards, working closely with Health and Safety Officers to promptly address incidents and unsafe conditions.
- Manage permits and licenses, ensuring timely renewals and proper documentation on-site.
- Maintain daily site diaries and photographic records, ensuring contractor invoices are reviewed and processed appropriately.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support the success of the Zengamina team and Anzana operations.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with registration from the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) in the relevant discipline(s).
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience in construction management, preferably within hydropower, solar PV, substations, distribution, or rural electrification projects.
- Proven experience working with Owner’s Engineers or Engineer’s Representatives.
- Familiarity with grid interconnection and utility coordination processes.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders and community structures effectively.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills are essential.
- Demonstrated commitment to ethics, compliance, and sustainability principles.
