Frankfurt Zoological Society (FZS) invites applications for the position of Community Liaison Assistant at our sites in Chama (Tembwe Chiefdom) and Mafinga (Muyombe Chiefdom). This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to impactful community engagement within the EU NaturAfrica-funded Connecting Livelihoods and Landscape (CoLiLa) Project, strengthening conservation and community governance in the Malawi–Zambia Transfrontier Conservation Area.
About Frankfurt Zoological Society and the Role
FZS is a global conservation organization dedicated to protecting wildlife and ecosystems across Africa, South America, Asia, and Europe. In Zambia, our North Luangwa Conservation Programme (NLCP) leads efforts to conserve biodiversity and promote sustainable livelihoods. As part of the CoLiLa Project, the Community Liaison Assistant will play a vital role in bridging communication between local communities and project teams to ensure inclusive, culturally sensitive, and effective conservation activities.
Key Responsibilities for Community Liaison Assistant Jobs in Chama
- Facilitate community consultations, meetings, and awareness sessions to foster dialogue and participation
- Serve as a liaison between communities, Traditional Authorities, and project staff to promote mutual understanding
- Assist in mobilizing community members for activities, trainings, and local elections
- Support the implementation and communication of Grievance Redress Mechanisms (GRMs) to address community concerns
- Document and relay community feedback, priorities, and concerns to project teams for timely response
- Disseminate project information, including EU visibility messaging, to enhance transparency and awareness
- Maintain accurate records of meetings, attendance, and activity reports
- Support conflict-sensitive engagement and Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) processes
- Collaborate closely with Community Conservation Officers and Educators in field operations
- Perform additional duties to ensure smooth project implementation as required
Candidate Profile and Qualifications
Ideal candidates for these community liaison assistant jobs in Chama should possess:
- A Certificate or Diploma in Community Development, Social Work, Natural Resource Management, or related disciplines
- At least two years of experience in community engagement, outreach, or liaison roles, preferably within rural or conservation contexts
- Demonstrated experience working with traditional leadership and community structures
- Proficiency in local languages to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders
- Relevant community facilitation training is advantageous
- Strong interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to build trust and listen attentively
- Basic skills in reporting, record-keeping, and documentation
- Willingness to live and work in remote rural communities under field conditions
