Communication Officer and Driver Jobs in Lusaka – International Crane Foundation

The International Crane Foundation (ICF) invites qualified candidates to apply for exciting communication officer and driver jobs in Lusaka. These contract positions support the Global Environment Facility (GEF) 8 Project, a collaborative initiative focused on restoring the Kafue Flats ecosystem in Zambia through biodiversity conservation, climate resilience, and sustainable livelihoods.

About the International Crane Foundation and the GEF 8 Project

ICF is a global leader in crane conservation, working across Africa to protect four threatened crane species and their habitats. In partnership with the Government of Zambia and WWF, ICF implements two flagship projects under the Kafue Flats Restoration Partnership: the Kafue Flats Wildlife, Habitat, Health and Livelihoods Project (KaF-Wild) and the Kafue Flats Climate Resilience and Adaptation Project (KaF-Adapt). These five-year projects aim to restore the ecosystem while enhancing community well-being.

Communications Officer Position – Lusaka, Zambia

Contract role with some travel

Reporting to the Project Manager and Technical Coordinator, the Communications Officer will:

  • Develop and implement a joint communications strategy for KaF-Wild and KaF-Adapt projects in collaboration with partners and sub-grantees.
  • Lead media relations, coordinating interviews, press conferences, and speaking engagements to enhance project visibility.
  • Create high-quality communications and marketing materials adhering to ICF and GEF branding and editorial standards.
  • Manage digital communications by producing stories for the ICF website and social media, monitoring content, and providing guidance.
  • Coordinate communications for project events, including photography, videography, and multimedia content.
  • Prepare and publish newsletters highlighting project achievements and lessons learned.
  • Maintain and archive communications resources such as publications, press releases, and digital assets.
  • Develop annual communications work plans and budgets, contributing to project reports and donor documentation.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field.
  • At least three years of relevant experience, preferably in NGOs or conservation organizations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including storytelling, editing, and proofreading.
  • Experience with digital communications, social media, graphic design, photography, or videography; video editing is a plus.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with digital media platforms.
  • Ability to work independently with professionalism and integrity.

Driver Position – Lusaka, Zambia

Contract role with extensive travel within the project landscape

Reporting to the Project Accountant, the Driver will:

  • Provide safe, timely, and professional transportation for staff, consultants, partners, and visitors within Lusaka and the Kafue Flats area.
  • Transport project equipment and supplies securely to field sites supporting missions, trainings, and workshops.
  • Conduct daily vehicle inspections, ensuring cleanliness, roadworthiness, and maintenance compliance.
  • Maintain accurate vehicle logbooks, fuel records, and coordinate servicing and repairs.
  • Ensure compliance with insurance, licensing, and statutory requirements, reporting incidents promptly.
  • Uphold safety, confidentiality, and professionalism, adhering to ICF policies and environmental safeguards.
  • Provide logistical and administrative support including document and supply delivery and office errands.
  • Safeguard project vehicles and contribute to efficient project implementation.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Full Grade 12 School Certificate or equivalent.
  • Valid Zambian Class C driver’s license with a clean driving record and experience with manual transmission vehicles.
  • Minimum of five years professional driving experience, preferably with NGOs, donor projects, government, or private sector, including rural and off-road terrain.
  • Knowledge of vehicle maintenance and ability to perform routine checks; basic mechanical skills are an advantage.
  • Defensive Driving Certificate and First Aid certification are desirable.
  • Good spoken and written English; knowledge of local languages is an asset.
  • Basic computer and smartphone skills for communication and record-keeping.
  • High integrity, professionalism, reliability, and commitment to safety with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to travel extensively and work flexible hours, including occasional weekends.
