Recognizing the profound impact of climate change on agriculture, water resources, forests, energy, and livelihoods across Zambia, the organization is hosting a Climate Innovation Hackathon. This event will provide young participants with hands-on experience to:

Role Overview for Climate Innovation Hackathon Facilitator Jobs in Lusaka

The consultancy involves designing and leading technical sessions, mentoring youth teams, and supporting the development and presentation of innovative climate solutions during the hackathon. Facilitators and mentors will help participants:

  • Grasp the causes and effects of climate change
  • Identify community-based climate challenges
  • Design feasible, scalable, and sustainable solutions
  • Prepare and deliver compelling final innovation pitches

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparation Phase: Submit an inception report outlining training methods and session plans; develop Zambia-specific training materials; attend a preparatory briefing.
  • Facilitation & Mentorship Phase: Lead thematic and technical sessions; mentor teams throughout idea development; assist in evaluating feasibility, scalability, and impact; provide ongoing technical feedback.
  • Pitch & Evaluation Phase: Guide pitch preparation; offer structured feedback; serve as a judge during the final pitching session.
  • Reporting Phase: Submit a final facilitation report summarizing activities, outcomes, innovations developed, and recommendations for future events.

Contract Duration and Location

This short-term consultancy includes:

  • Preparation day on 8 June 2026
  • Active participation during the four-day hackathon from 9 to 12 June 2026 (08:00–16:30)
  • Submission of a final report within one week after the event

The assignment will be conducted in person at the designated hackathon venue in Lusaka, Zambia.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Environmental Science, Climate Change, Natural Resource Management, Sustainability, or a related field
  • Minimum of five years of relevant professional experience
  • Proven expertise in climate-related fields or innovation ecosystems
  • Experience facilitating workshops, mentoring, or training (preferred)
  • Experience working with youth or community programs
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

Time Commitment

  • Attendance at one preparatory session
  • Full engagement during the hackathon days (08:00–16:30)
  • Participation in a post-hackathon knowledge-sharing session
