Position Overview for Assistant Blaster Jobs in Solwezi

As an Assistant Blaster, you will play a key role in the safe, efficient, and productive loading of blast holes in surface mining operations. Your responsibilities will be performed in strict compliance with company policies, management systems, and standard operating procedures, ensuring safety and quality at all times.

Key Responsibilities

• Interpret instructions and diagrams to lay out drill patterns, determining the depth and diameter of blast holes.
• Conduct field tests to identify the type and quantity of explosives required for each blast.
• Assemble or supervise the assembly of primer charges using detonators, fuses, detonating cords, and other materials.
• Load explosives into blast holes manually or coordinate the use of bulk explosives trucks for loading and transfer operations.
• Connect electrical wires, detonating cords, or fuses into series and operate blasting machines to safely detonate charges.
• Handle, store, and transport explosives and accessories in compliance with regulations, maintaining strict safety standards.
• Report hazards and unsafe working conditions promptly to the Team Leader, demonstrating a commitment to workplace safety.
• Participate in blast pattern clean-up and removal of explosive storage boxes in accordance with site policies and mining regulations.
• Assist with clearing personnel from blast areas and guarding blast perimeter zones.
• Support magazine inventory control and audits to ensure compliance with mining regulations governing explosive storage.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Minimum education: Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.
• Valid Blasting License holder.
• Possession of a ZAQA Certificate.
