About the Role – Artisan Fitter Jobs in Mazabuka

Reporting directly to the Irrigation Foreman-Mechanical, the Artisan Fitter will play a key role in maintaining and servicing mechanical and irrigation equipment across the estate. Nanga Farms Limited is a subsidiary of Zambia Sugar Plc and part of the ABF Sugar Group, managing 2,860 hectares of irrigated sugarcane and a cattle herd of 1,400 head.

Key Responsibilities include:

• Maintain expert knowledge of all mechanical and irrigation equipment and take ownership of any failures due to insufficient inspections.
• Perform troubleshooting and root cause analysis to identify and resolve equipment issues efficiently.
• Follow job plans and checklists as outlined in work orders to ensure tasks are completed accurately.
• Coordinate work and resource allocation for stop days, shutdowns, and off-crop maintenance, providing daily progress updates to supervisors.
• Assist in material requisition from stores and manage gate pass documentation.
• Liaise closely with centre pivot and pump station operators during maintenance and handover procedures.
• Maintain high housekeeping standards in all work areas to promote safety and efficiency.
• Participate in standby duties and emergency call-outs as scheduled by the Foreman.
• Report accidents immediately through established procedures and conduct safety inspections on mechanical and irrigation equipment.
• Identify personal development needs and mentor junior maintenance staff.
• Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) to flag operational issues promptly.
• Adhere strictly to company policies, including SHERQ, Competition Law, and Anti-Bribery and Corruption guidelines.

Qualifications and Skills Required

• Full Grade 12 School Certificate.
• Craft Certificate in Water Supply or Agriculture Mechanics.
• Minimum of two years’ relevant post-qualification experience in a similar role.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to multitask effectively and adhere to safety regulations and best practices.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Good interpersonal skills, personal organization, and a high level of integrity.
• Certificates must be verified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
• Membership with the Engineering Institute of Zambia is required.
