Role Overview – Accountant Jobs in Chipata

Reporting directly to management, the Accountant will maintain accurate financial records, ensure compliance with statutory requirements, manage insurance and credit deduction processes, and foster partnerships with government and corporate agencies. This full-time position offers the opportunity to contribute significantly to both the financial and business development facets of the company.

Key Responsibilities

• Financial Management & Reporting: Maintain comprehensive books of accounts, including ledgers, receipts, and payments. Prepare monthly management accounts, cash flow statements, and budget variance reports.
• Statutory Compliance: Calculate and remit taxes to the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA), process NAPSA and NHIMA contributions, and ensure timely submission of all statutory returns. Keep abreast of tax and labor law changes and advise management accordingly.
• Insurance & Credit Control: Monitor insurance payments for clients under various medical schemes, reconcile claims, resolve billing issues, and manage salary deduction arrangements for credit clients in partnership with banks.
• Partnership & Agency Liaison: Draft, review, and execute Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) and service-level agreements with government ministries, corporate clients, and other stakeholders. Represent the company in external meetings ensuring proper documentation and compliance.
• Marketing & Sales Support: Support promotion of optical products and services by identifying sales opportunities, assisting with marketing materials, and engaging in community outreach and corporate eye-care campaigns. Track and report on marketing and sales performance.
• General Administration: Maintain internal controls and safeguard company assets. Assist with procurement and inventory management of optical supplies as required.

Qualifications and Experience

• Diploma in Accounting, Finance, or related field is required; a bachelor’s degree or professional qualifications such as ZICA, ACCA, or CIMA will be advantageous.
• Two to three years of practical accounting experience, preferably within health services, insurance, or retail sectors.
• Strong understanding of Zambian tax regulations and statutory bodies including ZRA, NAPSA, NHIMA, and WCFCB.
• Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel; familiarity with medical aid billing systems is a plus.
