Position Overview: Assistant Electrical Engineer
Reporting to the Construction Department, the Assistant Electrical Engineer will play a key role in ensuring the uninterrupted operation of water and electrical systems. The successful candidate will oversee daily maintenance activities, support project management for hydropower construction, and provide training to duty electricians. This role requires hands-on involvement in both routine repairs and strategic planning to support ongoing construction projects.
Key Responsibilities for Assistant Electrical Engineer Jobs in Ndola
- Perform daily maintenance and repair of electrical and water systems on construction sites and company premises to ensure continuous supply.
- Plan, allocate, and supervise the work of duty electricians across multiple sites.
- Develop material purchase plans and budgets for renovation and construction projects.
- Collaborate closely with Chinese engineers to support their daily operational tasks.
- Manage hydropower construction projects independently, ensuring adherence to standards and timelines.
- Design and implement skills training programs for the local hydropower construction team.
Candidate Requirements
- Strong foundation in electrical engineering theory with practical skills in water and electricity maintenance and installation.
- High safety awareness and ability to identify potential equipment hazards proactively.
- Proficient in repairing switch circuits and resolving unexpected malfunctions efficiently.
- Demonstrates responsibility, teamwork, and a proactive approach to overcoming challenges.
- Knowledgeable in maintenance, repair, and safe operation of generators, photovoltaic systems, water heaters, transformers, and pumps.
- Quick learner with the ability to adopt new construction standards and self-evaluate performance positively.
- Capable of independently developing hydropower construction plans and managing material procurement based on local market insights.
- Familiarity with hydropower project stages, standards, and construction nodes.
- Ability to create and implement effective training and management plans for the construction team.
- Proficient in MS Office and able to interpret CAD drawings and electrical schematics.
Qualifications and Preferences
- Diploma or higher qualification in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of six years’ experience in construction engineering, installation, maintenance, and management of water and electrical systems.
- Proven supervisory experience in maintenance work within residential, enterprise, or factory environments.
- Membership in the Engineering Institute of Zambia is required.
- Willingness to reside on company premises or construction sites during project periods.
- Current resident of Ndola or willing to relocate to Ndola.
