iDE Zambia is seeking a dynamic and experienced Area Sales Manager to lead the pilot phase of its Market-Based Sanitation (MBS) programme in the Southern Province, specifically in Monze/Kalomo. This contract role offers a unique opportunity to spearhead sanitation sales, manage private sector partnerships, and drive impactful WASH market systems initiatives.

Reporting to the Sector Manager, the WASH Area Sales Coordinator will oversee a dedicated sales and marketing team, including WASH Sales and Market Development Officers. This position involves direct supervision of field staff, close collaboration with iDE Zambia leadership and global teams, and responsibility for achieving sanitation sales targets while ensuring quality and timely order fulfilment by private sector partners.

The successful candidate will bring strong commercial acumen, project management expertise, and technical knowledge in WASH market systems. This role requires leadership in building and coaching sales teams, strengthening supply chains, and coordinating with multiple stakeholders to ensure the pilot’s success and alignment with broader WASH objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the implementation of the MBS pilot, ensuring activities meet project goals and timelines in partnership with other stakeholders.
  • Recruit, train, and manage a sales and marketing team that promotes sanitation products through door-to-door sales and community networks.
  • Coordinate capacity building and ongoing coaching for masons and entrepreneurs within the sanitation value chain.
  • Facilitate testing and refinement of sanitation financing models, supporting data collection and analysis.
  • Oversee project planning, budgeting, and reporting to comply with organizational and partner requirements.
  • Conduct regular field visits to monitor progress, resolve challenges, and maintain high-quality implementation standards.
  • Provide technical leadership by collaborating with WASH experts and ensuring products and services meet community needs and quality standards.
  • Support Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) integration within WASH programming.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between iDE field agents and consortium partners to ensure coordinated project delivery.
  • Engage in monitoring, evaluation, and learning activities to optimize sales strategies and document best practices for future scaling.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Sales, Business Studies, or related fields; degrees in Civil/Environmental Engineering, Water Resource Management, Sanitation, or Public Health considered with relevant sales/marketing experience.
  • At least six years of proven experience leading sales or marketing initiatives with measurable results.
  • Hands-on sales experience in B2B or B2C environments is preferred.
  • Familiarity with market-based approaches, either through commercial or NGO programming.
  • Strong knowledge of WASH programming, particularly sanitation and hygiene, is highly advantageous.

  • Excellent project management capabilities, including budgeting, reporting, and stakeholder coordination.
  • Ability to inspire and lead sales teams effectively.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills focused on practical, sustainable solutions.
  • Effective communication skills with diverse stakeholders including local communities, government officials, and technical teams.
  • Willingness to travel frequently within project areas.
  • Sensitivity to rural contexts and diverse social groups including women, youth, and ethnic minorities.
  • Capacity to manage multiple priorities in dynamic environments and maintain composure under pressure.

Additional Information and Application Process

This contract position is based in Monze/Kalomo, Southern Province, and is expected to last nine months. Flexibility is essential as project demands and field conditions may evolve.
