Position Overview
The Accountant will be responsible for managing and overseeing the university’s financial operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, budget control, compliance with financial regulations, and optimal use of financial resources. This position plays a critical role in supporting the university’s strategic and operational goals through sound financial management.
Key Responsibilities for Accountant Jobs in Lusaka
- Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; generate management accounts to support decision-making; ensure compliance with accounting standards and university policies.
- Budgeting and Control: Develop and consolidate departmental budgets; monitor budget performance and analyse variances; recommend improvements for financial efficiency and control.
- Financial Planning and Forecasting: Conduct financial analysis and forecasting to guide strategic planning; advise management on financial trends and risks.
- Treasury and Cash Management: Manage cash flow to ensure fund availability; oversee banking operations and reconciliations; safeguard and properly utilize funds.
- Internal Controls and Compliance: Implement and monitor internal control systems; ensure adherence to financial policies and statutory requirements; identify and mitigate financial risks.
- Audit Support: Coordinate internal and external audits; respond to audit queries and implement recommendations.
- Records Management: Maintain accurate financial records, ledgers, and documentation; ensure effective filing and retrieval systems.
- Supervision and Leadership: Supervise finance staff to maintain efficient workflow; provide guidance, mentorship, and performance monitoring.

Qualifications and Experience
- Grade 12 Full Certificate
- Professional qualification such as ACCA, CIMA, ZICA, or equivalent
- Registered and practicing member of the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA)
- At least five years of relevant experience in accounting or financial management
- Full-time availability
