Position Overview: Senior Lecturer – Biochemistry

The Senior Lecturer will play a pivotal role in developing and managing undergraduate academic programs within the Department of Biochemistry. This position entails delivering lectures, supervising clinical and practical training, guiding research activities, and contributing to curriculum development and quality assurance.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and participate in departmental and faculty work plans to meet academic objectives.
• Contribute to policy formulation, review of work manuals, and operational procedures.
• Coordinate timetabling and delivery of lectures, including clinical teaching and practical demonstrations.
• Review and update postgraduate curriculum for the Master’s program in Biochemistry.
• Mentor junior lecturers and tutors; assist in preparing and conducting examinations.
• Mark examination papers, compile continuous assessment and final results, and present findings to the board of studies.
• Engage in individual and collaborative research projects, supervising undergraduate research activities.
• Assess departmental research needs in consultation with the Head of Department.
• Author scholarly papers for publication and present findings at seminars, workshops, and conferences locally and internationally.
• Conduct field training, including clinical work, evening classes, in-service training, and postgraduate supervision (PhD holders only for postgraduate supervision).
• Participate actively in departmental and university meetings as required.

Qualifications and Experience

• Full Grade 12 school certificate or equivalent.
• Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry.
• Master of Science in Biochemistry.
• PhD in Biochemistry.
• All academic qualifications and transcripts must be validated by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
• A minimum of 10 years of academic experience at the lecturer level within a reputable university.
• Training in research and teaching methodologies.
• Administrative experience is an advantage.
