About the Reception Teacher Role
Reporting directly to the Primary Principal, the Reception Teacher will implement inquiry-led, developmentally appropriate learning experiences aligned with the IB PYP curriculum. The role requires creating engaging indoor and outdoor learning spaces that encourage creativity, collaboration, and independence. The teacher will actively observe and assess children’s progress, adapting instruction to meet diverse developmental and language needs while promoting social-emotional growth and wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities for Reception Teacher Jobs in Lusaka
- Plan and deliver inquiry-based, developmentally appropriate lessons aligned with the IB Primary Years Programme.
- Utilize purposeful play, guided learning, and explicit instruction to enhance early literacy, numeracy, language, and conceptual understanding.
- Create rich learning environments indoors and outdoors that stimulate curiosity and independence.
- Observe, assess, and document children’s learning progress, using evidence to tailor planning and provide suitable challenges.

- Maintain vigilant supervision and adhere strictly to safeguarding, child protection, and health and safety protocols.

- Lead and collaborate with Teaching Assistants, specialist teachers, and student support staff.
- Engage actively in PYP collaborative planning, professional development, curriculum enhancement, and school community activities.
- Provide at least one after-school activity weekly, as required.
Qualifications and Experience Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Primary Education, or a closely related field.
- Recognised professional teaching qualification.
- Current registration with the Teaching Council of Zambia and a valid practising certificate.
- Minimum of three years successful classroom teaching experience, including significant exposure to Reception, Kindergarten, or comparable early-years levels.
- Strong knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate pedagogies.
- Proven experience facilitating play-based and inquiry-led learning.
- Competence in observing, assessing, and documenting children’s progress to inform planning.
- Ability to differentiate instruction for diverse developmental, learning, and language needs.
- Demonstrated commitment to safeguarding and promoting children’s safety and wellbeing.
- Excellent spoken and written English communication skills, organisational abilities, and aptitude for family engagement.
- Experience with the IB Primary Years Programme, international or multicultural schools, early literacy, early numeracy, English as an additional language, or inclusive education is advantageous.
