About the Road Development Agency

Established under the Public Roads Act No. 12 of 2002 (as amended), the RDA is a statutory body of the Government of Zambia responsible for the planning, construction, maintenance, and regulation of public roads nationwide. The Agency also conducts comprehensive studies to improve road networks, regulates permissible road weights, and updates design standards to ensure a safe and efficient transportation system.

Role Overview – Engineer Road Safety Jobs in Lusaka

Reporting to the Principal Engineer – Design and Traffic, the Engineer – Road Safety will play a critical role in delivering a safe, sustainable, and integrated traffic network aligned with national traffic standards and bylaws. The successful candidate will contribute to optimizing road network performance by applying technical expertise in safety studies, crash analysis, and road safety audits.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and review safety studies including speed limit assessments, route and intersection investigations, and corridor-wide analyses.
  • Plan, investigate, and implement traffic safety solutions to ensure the effective operation of the transport network for all users.
  • Conduct crash data analysis and propose remedial measures to enhance road safety.
  • Perform road safety audits at various stages in compliance with RDA procedures and international best practices.
  • Prepare Non-Motorized User (NMU) Safety and Audit Reports to promote inclusive road safety.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Full Grade 12 School Certificate.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Traffic Engineering from a recognized university.
  • Minimum of two (2) years post-qualification experience, including at least one (1) year in Road Safety Audit, Geometric Design, traffic data analysis, or human factors application in road environments.
  • Valid membership with the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) and registration with the Engineers’ Registration Board (ERB).

Skills and Attributes

  • Strong team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills to engage effectively with colleagues and external stakeholders.
  • Innovative thinker with strong planning abilities focused on delivering measurable outcomes.
  • Proficient in computer applications such as MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to multitask and work independently with minimal supervision.
