Role Overview: Clerk of Works Jobs in Zambia

Reporting directly to the Resident Engineer, the successful candidate will oversee all site activities related to building works on a new contract project. The primary responsibility is to ensure that all workmanship, materials, and safety procedures strictly adhere to approved engineering designs, technical specifications, and Zambian building codes. This role requires meticulous attention to detail and proactive management of quality assurance and maintenance tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Quality Assurance: Perform daily inspections on-site to verify compliance with approved engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Maintenance Oversight: Supervise building maintenance, structural repairs, and refurbishment activities to preserve asset integrity.
  • Engineer Liaison: Provide daily progress updates, report technical challenges, and communicate any site deviations to the Resident Engineer.
  • Defect Identification: Detect defective workmanship or structural deterioration early and recommend corrective maintenance actions.
  • Material Testing: Monitor the delivery, storage, and handling of materials to ensure conformity with specified standards.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain a comprehensive site diary documenting daily activities, labor, materials, and maintenance tasks.
  • Safety & Compliance: Enforce strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations throughout construction and maintenance phases.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Education: Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering (mandatory).
  • Experience: At least 3 years of proven on-site experience as a Clerk of Works, Civil Inspector, or Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of civil construction methods, structural systems, and building maintenance.
  • Language Skills: Proficiency in Luvale and/or Lunda languages is a significant advantage for effective community engagement.
  • Logistics: Willingness to reside and work in the Kabompo and Zambezi districts for the contract duration.
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills to facilitate coordination between contractors and the Resident Engineer.
  • Professional Registration: Active membership with the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) is required.
