Family Legacy Missions Zambia (FLMZ), a Christian faith-based organisation dedicated to empowering vulnerable children in Zambia, is seeking a qualified and passionate professional for the position of Manager – Counselling and Social & Emotional Learning (SEL) in Lusaka. Family Legacy operates through Legacy Academies, Tree of Life Children’s Village, and Camp Life programmes, providing holistic care and support. The Manager – Counselling and SEL will play a vital role in shaping and overseeing the organisation’s counselling and psychosocial support services, ensuring they align with Family Legacy’s mission to glorify God by helping children realise their God-given potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and operational management of counselling and SEL programmes.
  • Ensure consistent, high-quality delivery of counselling, psychosocial support, and SEL interventions across all programme sites.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop multidisciplinary teams focused on counselling and SEL.
  • Promote trauma-informed, child-centred, and evidence-based practices to enhance learner wellbeing and resilience.
  • Champion child safeguarding initiatives, including case management and referral systems, in line with organisational policies and statutory requirements.
  • Oversee programme monitoring, evaluation, reporting, and foster continuous learning.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with schools, communities, churches, government bodies, donors, and other stakeholders.
  • Manage departmental planning, budgeting, and resource allocation effectively.
  • Contribute to organisational leadership, policy development, and compliance while exemplifying Christian servant leadership.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • ZAQA-validated Grade 12 School Certificate with at least five credits including English.
  • ZAQA-validated Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Psychology, Counselling Psychology, Educational Psychology, Social Work, Guidance and Counselling, Mental Health, or a related behavioural science.
  • A Master’s Degree in a related field is advantageous.
  • Registration with the relevant professional body where applicable.
  • Valid driver’s licence.

Experience requirements include:

  • Minimum of seven years of progressive experience in counselling, psychology, psychosocial support, social work, or Social and Emotional Learning.
  • At least three years in a leadership or supervisory capacity.
  • Proven experience designing, implementing, and evaluating counselling or psychosocial support programmes.
  • Experience working with vulnerable children and adolescents using trauma-informed approaches.
  • Knowledge of child safeguarding, case management, and referral systems.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary teams, stakeholder engagement, budgeting, and programme reporting.
  • Experience in the education sector, NGOs, faith-based, or donor-funded environments is an added advantage.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong understanding of child and adolescent development, trauma-informed care, counselling, and Social & Emotional Learning.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of child safeguarding and psychosocial support programming.
  • Excellent leadership, coaching, mentoring, and stakeholder engagement capabilities.
  • Effective planning, analytical, organisational, and decision-making skills.
  • High emotional intelligence, integrity, professionalism, and accountability.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Christian values and servant leadership.
