About the Internal Auditor Role
The Internal Auditor will provide independent assurance that critical controls are effectively designed and functioning across various operational sites, including administrative offices, manufacturing plants, and depots. The primary focus will be on safeguarding assets, preventing losses, and ensuring adherence to internal policies and applicable laws. This role involves performing substantive testing, control walk-throughs, and spot checks, with findings reported directly to management to facilitate timely corrective action.
Key Responsibilities for Internal Auditor Jobs in Lusaka
- Detect, investigate, and prevent financial, inventory, and operational losses such as fraud, theft, misuse of assets, and revenue leakage.
- Conduct targeted loss-prevention testing across depots, mills, warehouses, and commercial operations.
- Independently verify that existing controls operate as intended without involvement in process design or modification.
- Perform substantive testing in high-risk areas including revenue, inventory, procurement, production variances, payroll, and fixed assets.
- Carry out scheduled and surprise verification checks on cash, stock, weighbridge records, production yields, and assets.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, corporate standards, and contractual obligations.
- Validate adherence to tax, statutory, and governance requirements, reporting any breaches with supporting evidence and risk implications.
- Support external auditors, corporate audit teams, and regulators by preparing documentation and evidence.
- Track and verify closure of audit findings, focusing on completion verification rather than remediation execution.
- Produce objective, evidence-based assurance reports that highlight control failures, exposures, and compliance gaps.
- Escalate critical risk matters based on verified facts while maintaining independence from operational accountability.
- Participate in physical stock counts and variance investigations to confirm production and inventory accuracy.
- Independently verify weighbridge data, raw material usage, finished goods movements, and shrinkage.
Qualifications and Experience Required
- Completion of Grade 12 school certificate and an accountancy degree.
- Professional accounting qualification such as full ZICA, ACCA, or equivalent.
- At least 5 years of relevant accounting experience, including a minimum of 2 years in internal or external audit roles.
- Strong numerical aptitude and proficient computer skills.
- Excellent written communication skills.
- Knowledge of US GAAP is advantageous but not mandatory.
