Project Officer Opportunity in Mongu, Western Zambia

CELIM Zambia is seeking a dedicated professional for one of the leading project officer jobs in Mongu. This full-time role offers the chance to coordinate and implement impactful development projects across rural communities including Kaande, Tapo, Sefula, and the town of Mongu. The successful candidate will work closely with local partners such as Caritas Mongu and Cheshire Home to ensure effective project delivery and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities for Project Officer Jobs in Mongu

  • Plan, facilitate, and monitor project activities aligned with approved work plans in target communities.
  • Coordinate implementation efforts with local partners to achieve project goals efficiently.
  • Conduct capacity-building sessions and training for government officials and stakeholders, emphasizing inclusive approaches for persons with disabilities.
  • Organize public awareness events to boost project visibility and stakeholder involvement.
  • Represent CELIM Zambia at institutional meetings, technical working groups, and coordination forums.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, ensuring timely completion of activities.
  • Support monitoring and evaluation by updating tools, tracking outputs, and reporting challenges promptly.
  • Prepare regular activity reports and contribute communication materials such as success stories and photographs.
  • Assist in community sensitization and beneficiary monitoring with a focus on inclusion.
  • Manage project budgets, verify financial documentation, and ensure compliance with donor and organizational procedures.
  • Support procurement and contract management processes, including vendor selection and contract tracking.
  • Oversee the maintenance and proper use of project vehicles.
  • Identify project risks and help develop mitigation strategies.
  • Facilitate team meetings and support proposal and operational plan development as needed.

Qualifications and Experience

  • 3 to 4 years of experience in project management or related fields, preferably within NGOs.
  • Strong knowledge of project management focused on persons with disabilities.
  • Experience managing projects funded by major donors such as UN, EU, or USG grants is preferred.
  • Proven skills in budget preparation and financial management.
  • Proficiency in project management software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and independent working skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in multicultural and multiethnic environments with sensitivity and respect for diversity.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English; fluency in a local language is an advantage.
  • A valid driving license is mandatory.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Development Studies or a related field is required.
