About the Role: Geo Tech Instrumentation Engineer Jobs in Solwezi
As a QAQC Instrumentation Engineer, you will ensure that all instrumentation and control systems meet technical specifications, safety standards, and industry regulations. Your responsibilities will include overseeing installation, calibration, and maintenance of instrumentation, with particular focus on Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) instrumentation. You will play a critical role in maintaining data integrity and system reliability to support geotechnical stability and mass balance modelling.
Key Responsibilities
- Adhere to company policies and legal regulations related to health, safety, environment, quality, finance, and human resources.
- Conduct quality control and inspection of new and existing TSF instrumentation, ensuring installations align with engineering drawings and P&IDs.
- Perform calibration and verification of field instruments, validating sensor accuracy.
- Maintain detailed instrument records including calibration certificates, non-conformance reports, and as-built documentation.
- Provide technical support and troubleshoot instrumentation failures or data drift, implementing corrective measures.
- Manage high-reliability data transmission networks such as LoRaWAN, Satellite, and Mesh, including edge-computing gateways.
- Collaborate with process and geotechnical teams to ensure sensor data meets modelling requirements.
Required Competencies and Skills
- Proven experience with telemetry and transmission architecture, including long-range communication networks (LoRaWAN, Radio 900MHz/2.4GHz, Cellular/Satellite).
- Expertise in installing, calibrating, and troubleshooting Vibrating Wire Piezometers, Open Standpipes, Inclinometers (MEMS and Shape Array), and Magnetic Settlement Plates.
- Strong knowledge of PID control, closed-loop logic, and feedback system stability.
- Proficiency in data visualization tools such as Power BI and InsightTerra, alongside geotechnical modelling software.
- Commitment to implementing the FQM Way culture: “Smarter, Bolder, Driven, Together.”
- Sound understanding of safety practices and compliance with industry standards.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum Grade 12 Certificate.
- Degree in Mechatronics, Robotics, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline is preferred.
- Certification in tailings management is an advantage.
- At least 2 years of professional experience in industrial instrumentation and network systems.
- Eligibility for membership of the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ) and legal appointment per Zambian mining regulations.
- Valid driver’s license is essential.
