About the Role

As a Veterinary and Technical Services Associate at Zamgoat, you will play a key role in supporting veterinary and technical operations across our meat processing facilities and livestock projects. Your expertise will help enhance food safety, quality assurance, and animal welfare standards while advancing breeding, production, and infrastructure initiatives for goats, sheep, and cattle.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with meat quality assurance, food safety, hygiene, and veterinary regulations.
• Provide technical guidance on livestock health, welfare, and biosecurity measures.
• Support the design and implementation of breeding and production programmes for goats, sheep, and cattle.
• Offer technical assistance for livestock housing and infrastructure projects.
• Conduct thorough assessments of livestock, farms, and project sites.
• Develop and maintain herd-health, breeding, and livestock management protocols.
• Deliver training and technical support to farmers, cooperatives, project beneficiaries, and Zamgoat staff.
• Assist with project proposals, implementation, commissioning, and monitoring activities.
• Maintain Zamgoat’s standards for livestock production, veterinary care, biosecurity, and quality assurance.
• Support livestock procurement and related supply chain tasks as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates should possess one of the following qualifications:

• A Degree in Veterinary Medicine from a recognised institution; or
• A recognised qualification as a Veterinary Assistant/Technician, Animal Health Technician, or a related discipline, accompanied by at least five years of practical livestock experience.

Additionally, the ideal candidate will demonstrate:

• Relevant professional registration or practice credentials.
• Strong practical experience with goats, sheep, and cattle production systems.
• Knowledge of livestock health management, disease prevention, animal welfare, and biosecurity.
• Familiarity or keen interest in meat hygiene, food safety, and quality assurance standards.
• A hands-on, field-oriented approach with the flexibility to travel to project sites as needed.
• Excellent communication, record-keeping, and report-writing skills.
• Experience in livestock breeding, abattoir or meat processing, farm infrastructure, farmer training, or project implementation is advantageous.
