Position Overview – Technical Trainer Jobs in Mazabuka

Reporting directly to the Learning and Development Specialist, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in designing, delivering, and evaluating technical training programs that enhance operational competence across our sugar production processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, conduct, and assess technical training programs tailored to sugar production operations.
• Create on-the-job learning materials and evaluation assessments to support practical training.
• Assist in root-cause analysis during technical problem-solving sessions.
• Advise frontline managers on strategies to close technical skills gaps effectively.
• Collaborate with operational managers to identify and address competence gaps.
• Perform learning needs analysis for technical operations at the Mills.
• Implement diverse training methodologies to facilitate on-the-job learning.
• Conduct pre- and post-training assessments, providing constructive feedback.
• Participate actively in factory production meetings and skills development committees.
• Maintain and update TOPS charts, ensuring their visibility and relevance.
• Lead follow-up sessions for TOPS training to reinforce learning.
• Develop technical training modules and contribute to work instruction documentation.
• Manage technical training records and report progress to line management.
• Facilitate formal upskilling programs such as Pan Boiling and Operator Utility Day Training.
• Coordinate process trainee, learnership, and apprenticeship programs.
• Oversee SHERQ legal and mandatory training compliance for licenses and certifications.
• Supervise external training providers to ensure adherence to site-specific SHERQ policies.
• Contribute to the annual Learning & Development budget planning.
• Support on-site coordination of training logistics in collaboration with the L&D administrator.
• Uphold Illovo’s policies and guidelines, including SHERQ, Competition Law, and Anti-Bribery and Corruption standards.
• Work closely with the L&D Officer to align training initiatives with business strategy and goals.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

• Full Grade 12 Certificate.
• Diploma in Chemical Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
• Assessor and Learning Facilitation Competence Certificates.
• 3 to 5 years’ experience as a Frontline Manager (FLM) in sugar production operations, including laboratory environments (Mill, DAC, and Environmental).
• Strong business acumen with a passion for employee development.
• Excellent communication, influencing, and negotiation skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively within teams and manage multiple projects effectively.
• Proficient in planning, organization, analytical thinking, and problem-solving.
• Computer literacy is essential.
• Valid driver’s license.
