Key Responsibilities of the Sports and Events Coordinator

• Programme Planning and Development: Design and implement sports programmes and events tailored to community interests. Collaborate with stakeholders to define objectives and target groups. Research emerging sports trends to boost participation and support club development including coaching, equipment, nutrition, and local/international engagement.
• Participant Recruitment and Engagement: Promote activities through marketing and outreach, recruit participants, teams, and volunteers, and ensure excellent customer service by addressing inquiries and feedback promptly.
• Community Outreach: Build partnerships with schools, community centres, and organisations to expand access. Organise outreach events and workshops that encourage healthy lifestyles and overcome participation barriers.
• Logistics and Operations: Manage facility bookings, equipment rentals, event scheduling, and supervise staff, referees, coaches, and volunteers to guarantee smooth programme execution.
• Safety and Risk Management: Enforce safety protocols, conduct regular facility inspections, and respond effectively to emergencies to protect participants and staff.
• Financial Oversight: Develop and monitor budgets, seek sponsorships and partnerships, and provide performance reports to stakeholders. Collaborate closely with the Events and Sports Consultant to continuously improve programmes.

Essential Competencies and Attributes

• Strategic thinking and strong project management skills
• Financial acumen and budget management experience
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
• Excellent customer service orientation and communication skills
• Self-motivation with a passion for promotion and marketing
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and familiar with event management software (advantageous)
• Valid driver’s license required
• Leadership, dependability, initiative, attention to detail, and analytical thinking

Qualifications and Experience Required

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in sports coordination, event management, or community programmes within a reputable organisation
• Proven ability to lead and motivate teams including coaches, referees, and volunteers
• Experience in community engagement and stakeholder relations, especially with schools and local organisations
• Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Management, Event Management, Physical Education, or Business Administration
• Full Grade 12 School Certificate
• All qualifications must be certified by ZAQA
