Role Overview: Social Safeguards Officer Jobs in Lusaka

As a Social Safeguards Officer, you will be responsible for overseeing the social dimensions of projects to ensure compliance with both national and international social safeguard policies. Your work will involve assessing social impacts, engaging with diverse stakeholders, and addressing community concerns to promote sustainable and ethical project implementation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and monitor the social impacts of projects and operations to identify risks and opportunities
  • Develop and implement Social Management Plans (SMPs) tailored to project needs
  • Conduct social impact assessments and baseline studies to inform project design and implementation
  • Engage proactively with local communities, stakeholders, and vulnerable groups to foster trust and cooperation
  • Effectively address community grievances, conflicts, and concerns in a timely manner
  • Ensure strict compliance with social safeguard standards at both national and international levels
  • Support resettlement planning and livelihood restoration initiatives when applicable
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and documentation related to social safeguards
  • Promote inclusive participation and facilitate stakeholder engagement throughout project lifecycles
  • Monitor labor practices to uphold ethical standards within project operations

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Development Studies, Social Work, Human Geography, Sociology, Anthropology, or a related social science discipline
  • Minimum of 2 to 3 years’ experience in social impact assessments and community engagement
  • Strong knowledge of social safeguard policies, frameworks, and compliance requirements
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills
  • Proven ability to work effectively with diverse communities and multiple stakeholders
