Position Overview

The Senior Storeman will be responsible for ensuring accurate inventory control, proper storage and preservation of materials, timely stock issuance, and reconciliation of records. The role demands strict adherence to the Company’s internal control procedures and safety standards to support efficient warehouse and store operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate daily store and warehouse activities to ensure smooth operations.
  • Receive, inspect, verify, and document incoming materials, equipment, tools, and supplies.
  • Verify goods received against purchase orders, delivery notes, and supporting documents.
  • Maintain accurate and current inventory records using the Company’s inventory management system.
  • Monitor stock levels and ensure timely replenishment of critical materials and consumables.
  • Issue materials, tools, and equipment to authorised personnel following approved requisitions.
  • Conduct regular stock counts, cycle counts, and physical inventory verifications.
  • Investigate and report discrepancies, losses, damages, obsolete stock, and variances.
  • Ensure correct labelling, coding, stacking, storage, preservation, and security of inventory.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for goods received, issued, returned, transferred, damaged, or disposed of.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly inventory and store reports as required.
  • Coordinate with Procurement, Finance, Operations, and Maintenance departments on stock requirements and availability.
  • Support inventory planning by monitoring minimum and maximum stock levels.
  • Ensure proper management and accountability of tools and equipment issued from the store.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and safe warehouse and store environment.
  • Ensure compliance with Company policies, internal controls, health and safety standards.
  • Supervise and mentor Store Assistants and junior store personnel.
  • Participate in audits by providing required inventory records and documentation.
  • Perform other duties assigned by Management as necessary.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma or Degree in Stores Management, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Procurement, Business Administration, or related fields.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in stores, warehouse, inventory, or materials management.
  • Previous senior or supervisory stores experience is an advantage.
  • Experience in construction, mining, engineering, manufacturing, or similar operational environments is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of inventory control procedures and warehouse management practices.
  • Proficiency in inventory management systems, ERP software, and Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.
  • Excellent numerical, analytical, and record-keeping skills.
  • Familiarity with stock reconciliation, cycle counting, and inventory reporting.
  • Outstanding organisational and time-management abilities.
  • High integrity, accountability, and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and perform well under pressure.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
