Role Overview for School Head Teacher Jobs in Chipata

The School Head Teacher will provide comprehensive academic and administrative leadership, ensuring excellence in teaching and learning, learner welfare, discipline, and school operations. Reporting directly to the School Director, this role involves supervising all teaching and support staff, maintaining high professional standards, and managing key school programmes such as feeding and transport services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Instructional Leadership & Curriculum Delivery: Lead curriculum implementation from Baby Class to Grade 7, monitor teaching quality, manage assessments and examinations, and develop remedial initiatives based on learner performance.
  • Staff Leadership & Development: Supervise teaching and support staff, allocate duties, manage performance appraisals, and coordinate professional development activities in line with Teaching Council of Zambia requirements.
  • Learner Welfare & Discipline: Cultivate a positive school culture, enforce the learner code of conduct, safeguard children, and oversee enrolment and attendance records.
  • Parent and Community Engagement: Foster strong partnerships with families and community stakeholders, communicate school policies effectively, and represent the school to education authorities and local leadership.
  • School Operations & Administration: Oversee feeding and transport programmes, maintain facilities, manage school records and finances, and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Diploma in Primary or Early Childhood Education; a Bachelor’s degree in Education or Educational Administration is advantageous.
  • Valid registration and practicing certificate with the Teaching Council of Zambia (TCZ) is mandatory.
  • At least five years of primary teaching experience, including a minimum of two years in a leadership role.
  • Sound knowledge of the Zambian curriculum, assessment procedures, and education policies.
  • Proven leadership, supervisory, and mentoring skills.
  • Strong administrative and report-writing capabilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and email communication.
  • Excellent English communication skills; knowledge of Chinyanja is an asset.
  • Commitment to child safeguarding, confidentiality, and school values.
  • Clean disciplinary record, valid police clearance, and satisfactory professional references.
