About the Role: Registered Nurse Jobs in Ndola

Registered nurses at MBHS serve as the initial clinical contact for patients and play a critical role in health assessments, nursing procedures, and patient care planning. Nurses are expected to provide patient-centred, ethical, and evidence-based care in alignment with the General Nursing Council of Zambia’s Code of Conduct and MBHS Healthcare Standards. Shift work and rotation through different clinical areas are integral to this position.

Key Accountabilities

• Adhere to standard operating procedures and nursing care protocols consistent with the Zambian nursing scope of practice and MBHS standards.
• Deliver respectful, competent, and compassionate nursing care at all times.
• Demonstrate proficiency across triage, outpatient, inpatient, emergency, and other assigned departments.
• Maintain current nursing knowledge and skills to perform duties effectively.
• Be available and accessible during rostered shifts, including shift rotations.
• Uphold patient dignity and confidentiality, making ethical decisions regarding consent and privacy.

Primary Responsibilities

• Maintain a hygienic and safe clinical environment following MBHS Healthcare Standards.
• Conduct triage to prioritize urgent patient care according to MBHS protocols.
• Perform physical examinations including vital signs, blood smear testing, and health histories for new patients.
• Ensure accurate, legible nursing documentation and effective handover communication during shift changes.
• Develop nursing diagnoses and care plans, collaborating with attending doctors to monitor patient progress.
• Assist medical doctors during clinical procedures and escalate changes in patient health status promptly.
• Administer medications and injections with strict adherence to safety checks and document observations.
• Manage medication stock levels and clinical equipment, reporting needs for repairs or replacement.
• Respond swiftly to emergencies, involving medical doctors or on-call staff as necessary.
• Support patient discharge planning and liaise with general practitioners and pharmacists.
• Provide counselling and emotional support to patients and families following critical diagnoses or events.
• Mentor junior nursing staff under the direction of the Unit Leader.
• Promote patient education to encourage good health practices and document accordingly.
• Strictly follow infection control policies, including proper use of personal protective equipment.
• Comply with all applicable national legal regulations related to nursing practice.

Qualifications and Experience

• Diploma in Registered Nursing or equivalent qualification recognized in Zambia.
• Current practising licence from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Zambia (NMCZ).
• Minimum of two years’ experience as a registered nurse.
• Strong attention to detail and high computer literacy.
• Additional diplomas in Critical Care, Trauma, or Pediatric Nursing are advantageous.
