Role Overview for Pharmacy Technologist Jobs in Solwezi

As a Pharmacy Technologist at MBHS, you will play a vital role in the day-to-day operations of our hospital and clinic pharmacy. Your responsibilities will include medicines reconciliation, accurate dispensing, patient counseling, and maintaining pharmaceutical standards in line with international best practices and the Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ) regulations. You will operate under the supervision of the pharmacist to ensure the highest level of service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage daily pharmacy operations including stocking, dispensing, and inventory control following the Mary Begg Essential Drug List (EDL) and Essential Consumables List (ECL).
• Protect patient confidentiality in accordance with MBHS policies at all times.
• Adhere to protocols related to pharmacovigilance, medication recall, expiration, and disposal of drugs and clinical consumables.
• Verify prescriptions for accuracy and completeness before dispensing medications.
• Provide comprehensive counseling to patients on medication usage, dosage, side effects, and sensitivity signs.
• Maintain proper storage conditions for medications, including cold chain management and daily temperature monitoring of refrigerated drugs.
• Conduct regular stock takes and ensure inventory accuracy across all site locations.
• Coordinate with logistics and procurement teams to check and store new stock orders promptly.
• Dispose of expired or near-expiry medications according to company policy.
• Assist with training new staff and participate actively in clinic meetings and pharmacy service improvements.
• Support the clinic’s disaster management efforts as part of the team during emergencies or mass casualty incidents.
• Prepare and submit monthly reports on drug levels and usage to the Clinic Manager.
• Ensure all pharmaceutical equipment is maintained and report any needs for upgrades or replacements.

Qualifications and Experience

• Diploma in Pharmacy Technology or equivalent qualification recognized in Zambia.
• Registration and valid license with the Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ) is mandatory.
• Minimum of three years’ experience in a related pharmacy technologist role.
• Proficiency in computer applications with experience using systems such as Sage, Mitrais, or Smart Care.
