Position Overview
As Hydroelectric Project Manager, you will lead the management of the company’s water and electricity construction, maintenance, and repair projects. The role requires close collaboration with Chinese engineering teams and local authorities to ensure successful project planning, budgeting, compliance, and execution.
Key Responsibilities for Hydroelectric Project Manager Jobs in Ndola
- Manage water and electricity equipment during projects and emergency maintenance operations.
- Assist Chinese engineers in planning, budgeting, and regulatory applications for new and renovation projects with authorities such as ZESCO, WARMA, and Local Water Utilities.
- Support development of annual electricity consumption and consumables approval plans.
- Ensure compliance with Zambian water and electricity construction regulations.
- Independently oversee ongoing hydropower construction projects, supervising assistant engineers and maintaining project timelines.
- Conduct skill training and development for local hydropower construction teams.
- Contribute to the management and follow-up of the proposed 320kwp photovoltaic project.
Essential Requirements
- Demonstrated practical skills in water and electricity maintenance and installation.
- Strong safety awareness with the ability to anticipate and mitigate equipment hazards.
- Proficient in repairing switch circuits and managing unexpected breakdowns.
- High sense of responsibility, leadership capability, teamwork spirit, and resilience.
- Familiarity with maintenance, repair, safe operation, and troubleshooting of generators, photovoltaics, water heaters, transformers, and pumps.
- Knowledge of photovoltaic substation construction standards and processes.
- Strong learning aptitude with a positive attitude toward continuous improvement.
- Ability to independently develop construction plans and economically viable project budgets based on local materials and market conditions.
- Experienced in hydropower construction project phases, standards, and team management.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 10 years’ work experience, including at least 6 years managing water and electricity construction, installation, and maintenance projects in residential, commercial, or industrial settings.
- Proven track record managing at least five hydropower construction projects and leading teams of 30 or more personnel.
- Competent in MS Office Suite, CAD software, and interpreting electrical construction drawings and schematics.
- Established network with material suppliers and relevant power and water authorities.
- Membership in the Engineering Institute of Zambia is mandatory.
- Willingness to reside on-site at the company yard or construction locations during projects.
- Must be a resident of Ndola or willing to relocate.
