Role Overview: Human Resources Director Jobs in Lusaka
Reporting directly to the Vice Chancellor, the Human Resources Director will provide strategic leadership in developing and implementing human resource management strategies that support ACU’s mission and Christian values. This leadership role is critical to fostering academic and administrative excellence through effective people management.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership and Compliance: Lead the HR function by developing and reviewing policies, procedures, and programs that comply with labour laws and best practices. Provide strategic advice to senior leadership and ensure adherence to employment legislation and institutional policies. Serve as secretary on board committees.
- Employee Welfare and Management: Oversee workforce planning, talent acquisition, succession planning, and retention. Manage recruitment, induction, performance management, promotions, and separations. Champion staff development, training, and leadership initiatives. Foster positive employee relations and a respectful, values-driven work environment. Administer compensation, benefits, and welfare programs. Support organisational change and culture-building efforts while leading a high-performing HR team.
- Reporting, Budgeting, and Information Management: Develop HR analytics and reports to inform decision-making. Manage the HR budget and resources efficiently. Maintain confidential employee records and strengthen HR information systems. Oversee payroll and financial HR obligations. Liaise with regulatory bodies including NHIMA, NAPSA, ZRA, and HEA. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Vice Chancellor.
Qualifications and Experience
- Full Grade 12 certificate
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Industrial Relations, or a related field
- Paid-up membership with the Zambia Institute of Human Resource Management (ZIHRM)
- Minimum of five years’ senior management experience
- ZAQA certification
Competencies and Attributes
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting standards
- Comprehensive understanding of employment legislation, employee relations, performance and talent management, and organisational development
- Proven leadership in developing and managing HR teams
- Excellent strategic planning, analytical, interpersonal, negotiation, communication, and leadership skills
- Experience in developing and implementing HR policies and systems
- Proficiency with HR information systems and digital technologies
- Integrity, reliability, and ability to perform under pressure
