Nemchem International Limited is seeking a dedicated Health and Safety Officer to join our Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) department in Lusaka, Zambia. Position Overview: Health and Safety Officer Jobs in Lusaka

Reporting directly to the Health & Safety Manager, the Health and Safety Officer will play a key role in supporting the implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of our health, safety, and environmental policies. The successful candidate will ensure that all employees, contractors, and visitors adhere to workplace health and safety regulations, while actively identifying and mitigating potential hazards.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the implementation and maintenance of the company’s HSE policies and procedures.
• Conduct routine workplace safety inspections to identify unsafe acts, conditions, and hazards.
• Assist in risk assessments, Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), and the application of control measures.
• Monitor compliance with PPE requirements and safe working practices.
• Report incidents, accidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions to management promptly.
• Assist with investigations and develop corrective and preventive action plans.
• Maintain accurate records including inspection reports and incident documentation.
• Facilitate toolbox talks, safety inductions, and employee awareness programs.
• Ensure new employees, contractors, and visitors receive appropriate safety inductions.
• Monitor the condition and use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Support emergency preparedness initiatives, including fire drills and response procedures.
• Inspect fire extinguishers, first-aid equipment, emergency exits, and safety signage.
• Oversee contractor compliance with company HSE requirements.
• Contribute to regular HSE meetings and prepare relevant reports and statistics.
• Escalate serious safety issues to management without delay.
• Assist with environmental monitoring and compliance activities where applicable.
• Stay current with Zambian occupational health and safety legislation and industry standards.

Qualifications and Professional Requirements

• Grade 12 School Certificate is required.
• Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Safety Management, or a related discipline.
• Relevant certifications such as Occupational Health & Safety, Fire Safety, First Aid, or Risk Assessment are advantageous.
• Registration with a recognized professional or occupational health and safety body in Zambia is mandatory where applicable.
• Proof of current registration or practising membership must be submitted with the application.
• Ongoing maintenance of valid professional registration is required throughout employment.

Experience and Skills

• 1 to 2 years’ experience in health and safety or a related environment is preferred.
• Experience in manufacturing, construction, mining, logistics, or warehousing sectors is a plus.
• Strong practical knowledge of HSE principles and workplace safety is essential.
• Proficient in hazard identification, risk assessment, and incident reporting procedures.
• Excellent report writing, record-keeping, and communication skills.
• Ability to conduct thorough safety inspections and enforce safety policies professionally.
• Computer literacy with Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Capable of working independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
