About the Head of Collections Role in Lusaka

As Head of Collections, you will be responsible for overseeing end-to-end collection activities, leading a high-performing team, and employing data-driven strategies to ensure sustainable portfolio performance. You will play a critical role in scaling our credit operations by improving collection workflows and enhancing customer repayment experiences.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage all stages of collections including early, soft, and hard collections.
• Monitor key performance indicators such as missed payments, cure rates, roll rates, and delinquency trends.
• Recruit, coach, and supervise the Collections Team to meet daily, weekly, and monthly KPIs.
• Oversee inbound and outbound call operations, ensuring quality standards in scripts and customer interactions.
• Develop and continuously refine Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for delinquency treatment flows from 1 to 30+ days past due.
• Resolve complex client escalations by designing practical repayment solutions.
• Manage and optimize dialers, CRM systems, and collection automation tools.
• Prepare weekly reports on collections performance, portfolio insights, and cash flow forecasts.
• Analyze borrower behavior to enhance collection strategies.
• Coordinate with external tracing agencies or legal partners when necessary.
• Ensure compliance with local regulations, proper documentation, call monitoring, and quality assurance controls.

Candidate Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Collections within microfinance, microlending, or digital lending environments.
• At least 1 to 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role overseeing collections teams.
• Strong understanding of short-term and installment-based repayment models.
• Excellent analytical skills with the ability to convert data into actionable operational improvements.
• Demonstrated ownership, discipline, and effective people leadership capabilities.
• Experience working with CRM systems, dialers, or collection automation tools is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with borrower behavior and cultural nuances in Zambia is a distinct advantage.
• Fluent English communication skills, as it is the primary working language.
