Role Overview for General Manager Jobs in Lusaka

The General Manager will be responsible for driving the company’s vision and mission by offering strategic leadership, managing operations and resources with accountability, and implementing policies and plans that support the achievement of the company’s strategic objectives. This contract position requires a dynamic leader capable of navigating the complexities of the insurance industry while promoting sustainable business growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and oversee the execution of the company’s strategic plan.
• Develop and implement business growth strategies to enhance market share, revenue, profitability, and customer retention.
• Ensure full compliance with the Insurance Act, PIA regulations, and all relevant laws.
• Establish and maintain strong relationships with insurers, reinsurers, corporate clients, regulators, and other key stakeholders.
• Drive business development initiatives and foster strategic partnerships.
• Oversee insurance operations including underwriting support, claims administration, and customer service to maintain high standards.
• Promote sound corporate governance, enterprise risk management, and robust internal controls.
• Foster a high-performance culture by encouraging employee engagement and talent development.
• Manage financial planning and budgeting processes effectively.
• Provide regular performance reports to the Board of Directors.

Qualifications and Experience

• Full Grade 12 School Certificate.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Insurance, Chartered Accountancy (CA), ACCA, CIMA, or a related business field.
• A Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) is an advantage.
• At least ten years of relevant experience encompassing insurance, investments, and financial management, with a minimum of five years in senior management or executive leadership roles.
• Comprehensive understanding of the Zambian insurance market, regulatory frameworks, and industry best practices.
• Must satisfy the Pensions and Insurance Authority (PIA) fit-and-proper criteria for this position.

Technical Competencies and Attributes

• Strong strategic thinking and entrepreneurial skills.
• Extensive brokerage and financial management expertise.
• Solid knowledge of corporate governance, compliance, and risk management.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication abilities.
• Proven track record in business development.
