About the Role: Finance Officer Jobs in Lusaka

The Finance Officer will play a crucial role in maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring timely processing of payments and payroll, and providing the CEO with clear financial reports. This role focuses on bookkeeping and financial oversight rather than accounting functions, supporting both Curtain Factory and Deyne Interiors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Bookkeeping & Financial Records: Accurately record all income and expenditures, maintain the general ledger, process supplier invoices, and manage customer accounts including follow-up on outstanding debts.
  • Bank Reconciliation & Cash Management: Perform monthly bank reconciliations, monitor daily cash flow, and manage petty cash with precise reconciliation.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly income and expenditure reports, debtor and creditor age analyses, track budget variances, and assist in annual budget preparation.
  • Payroll & Statutory Compliance: Process monthly payroll on time, manage PAYE and NAPSA deductions, submit statutory returns punctually to the Zambia Revenue Authority and other bodies, and issue accurate payslips.
  • Financial Controls: Ensure all financial transactions comply with company policies, report irregularities immediately, and maintain organized digital and physical finance records.

Performance Expectations

  • Maintain zero unreconciled discrepancies in financial records monthly.
  • Submit monthly financial reports to the CEO by the 7th of each month.
  • Complete bank reconciliations within three working days after month-end.
  • Process payroll accurately and punctually, with no late or incorrect payments.
  • Reduce outstanding debtor accounts consistently month-on-month.
  • File all statutory submissions on time, avoiding penalties.
  • Ensure full compliance with financial controls, with zero unauthorized transactions.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree in Accounting, Bookkeeping, or Financial Management.
  • Professional qualification from ZICA or equivalent (ACCA, CIMA acceptable).
  • At least three years’ experience in bookkeeping or accounts officer roles.
  • Proficiency in payroll processing including PAYE and NAPSA contributions.
  • Experience with accounting software such as Xero, Sage, QuickBooks, or equivalents.
  • Previous work experience in retail or SME service environments is preferred.

Skills and Personal Attributes

  • Exceptional numerical accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Knowledge of Zambian tax regulations including PAYE, VAT, and NAPSA.
  • Ability to prepare management accounts and cash flow reports.
  • Meticulous and trustworthy, handling financial data with integrity.
  • Deadline-driven with a commitment to meeting month-end and statutory deadlines.
  • Discreet and capable of maintaining strict confidentiality.
