About the Data Management Intern Role
As a Data Management Intern, you will play a vital role in designing, developing, and maintaining data systems essential for the organisation’s programmes. Working closely with the MEAL (Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning) and Research team, you will contribute to the effective management of data that drives impactful education initiatives.
Key Responsibilities for Data Management Intern Jobs in Lusaka
- Data Systems and Database Management: Design, build, and maintain relational databases; manage data structures, queries, and documentation; ensure data security and routine database maintenance; extract and transform data using SQL.
- Digital Data Collection Tools: Develop and manage electronic data collection forms using platforms such as KoboToolbox, SurveyCTO, or ODK; implement skip logic, validation rules, and quality checks; support deployment and troubleshooting; train field teams and programme staff.
- Data Cleaning and Quality Assurance: Perform data cleaning, validation, deduplication, and consistency checks; develop automated quality checks using Excel, Power Query, and SQL; maintain data dictionaries and documentation.
- Dashboards and Data Visualization: Assist in developing and updating interactive dashboards with Power BI; use Power Query and DAX for data modelling and analysis; support teams in interpreting dashboard outputs.
- Data Governance and Documentation: Support data management standards and protocols; ensure compliance with data protection and confidentiality policies; maintain comprehensive documentation for data assets.
Qualifications and Skills Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics/Statistics, Information Systems, or a related quantitative field.
- Fluency in English with strong communication skills.
- Proficiency in relational database design and management, including SQL querying and data transformation.
- Experience with Power BI for dashboard creation, data modelling, and reporting.
- Strong knowledge of Power Query for data cleaning and automation.
- Familiarity with digital data collection platforms such as KoboToolbox, SurveyCTO, or ODK, including form development with logic and validation.
- Ability to manage and clean large datasets, ensuring data quality and documentation.
- Understanding of data protection, confidentiality, and ethical data handling principles.
- Experience with DAX, and coding languages such as Python, R, Stata, or SAS is an advantage.
- Knowledge of cloud-based databases and data warehouses is desirable.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills and a collaborative mindset.
