Avencion is inviting applications for a data associates internship in Chongwe and Chibombo as part of the Training into Work (TiW) Project funded by Built International Investment (BII). Avencion is conducting research to generate evidence that will improve programme design and training delivery for skills development.

Role Overview: Data Associates Internship in Chongwe and Chibombo

As a Data Associate intern, you will play a vital role in ensuring data quality, integrity, and usability throughout the research process. You will collaborate closely with the Project Lead, Research Lead, Monitoring and Evaluation team, and field staff to support data collection, cleaning, validation, coding, analysis, visualization, and reporting.

This internship is initially for six weeks, with the possibility of extension, based in Chongwe and Chibombo districts.

Key Responsibilities

Data Collection Support: Assist with designing, reviewing, and pre-testing data collection tools; monitor incoming data quality and resolve issues promptly.
Data Cleaning and Management: Organize and maintain datasets; clean and validate quantitative and qualitative data; address inconsistencies and data anomalies.
Data Coding and Entry: Develop coding frameworks; systematically code survey responses; ensure accurate data entry and verification.
Data Analysis: Conduct quantitative statistical analysis; support thematic analysis of qualitative data; produce tables, charts, and reports to communicate findings.
Data Protection and Ethical Compliance: Maintain confidentiality; ensure secure data storage and transfer; comply with research protocols and Avencion’s policies.

Qualifications and Experience

Academic Background: A Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Data Science, Economics, Mathematics, Monitoring and Evaluation, Public Health, Social Sciences, Computer Science, or related fields is required. Postgraduate qualifications are advantageous.

Professional Experience: Minimum three years of experience in data analysis for research or development programs, including working with mixed-methods designs and large datasets.

Technical Skills:

Proficiency in one or more statistical software such as SPSS, STATA, R, Python, or advanced Microsoft Excel.
Experience with data visualization tools like Power BI or Tableau is highly desirable.
Familiarity with digital data collection platforms (e.g., KoboToolbox, SurveyCTO, ODK) is a plus.
Competence in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint for reporting and presentations.
