About the Project and Assignment

The project, implemented by Keepers Zambia Foundation in partnership with Gesundes Africa and funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, aims to enhance food security, access to safe drinking water, climate-resilient livelihoods, nutrition, and community resilience across eight target communities in Choma District.

The consultant will design and execute a baseline study to establish initial values for key project indicators. This study will guide monitoring and evaluation efforts throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring that interventions are impactful and tailored to community needs.

Scope of Work for Consultant Jobs in Choma Zambia

• Review project documentation, including the logical framework and indicators.
• Develop an inception report detailing methodology, sampling strategy, workplan, and data collection tools.
• Conduct baseline data collection using quantitative and qualitative methods in eight communities.
• Assess food security, household resilience, water access and functionality, WASH knowledge and practices, women’s savings and income activities, nutrition knowledge, climate-resilient agriculture, and community support structures.
• Analyze data to produce baseline values disaggregated by sex, age, community, and vulnerability category.
• Facilitate validation of findings with relevant stakeholders.
• Submit a comprehensive final baseline report with actionable recommendations.

Deliverables

• Inception report including methodology, sampling framework, workplan, and data collection tools.
• Approved data collection instruments (digital and/or paper-based).
• Cleaned datasets and data collection records.
• Draft baseline report for review.
• Validation presentation summarizing key findings.
• Final baseline report incorporating feedback, including executive summary, methodology, findings, indicator baseline table, conclusions, and recommendations.

Qualifications and Experience Required

• Advanced degree in social sciences, development studies, agriculture, nutrition, public health, monitoring and evaluation, statistics, or related fields.
• Proven experience conducting baseline studies, evaluations, or mixed-methods research for development projects in Zambia or similar contexts.
• Strong knowledge of food security, climate resilience, WASH, nutrition, women’s economic empowerment, and community-based programming.
• Expertise in designing sampling strategies, developing data collection tools, supervising fieldwork, and analyzing quantitative and qualitative data.
• Excellent English report-writing and presentation skills.
• Familiarity with local languages spoken in Choma District is an advantage.
• Consultancy firms or teams must specify the lead consultant and roles of all members.

Duration and Location

This contract position is expected to last approximately three weeks from contract signing. Fieldwork will be conducted in selected communities within Choma District, Southern Province. The consultant will collaborate closely with Keepers Zambia Foundation’s Head of Programmes & Planning, MEAL Officer, and district stakeholders.
