Key Responsibilities for Boiler Desk Engineer Jobs in Maamba

The Boiler Desk Engineer will play a vital role in maintaining optimal boiler operation and supporting power generation targets. Primary duties include:

• Maintaining generation units according to the approved export power schedule.
• Monitoring operational parameters, identifying deviations, and taking corrective actions to normalize performance.
• Logging operational data and documenting shift activities accurately.
• Coordinating with field operators and providing clear guidance to ensure safe and efficient operations.
• Collaborating with Turbine Desk engineers to achieve required boiler outputs.
• Operating limestone injection equipment and managing chemical dosing pumps in coordination with the chemistry team to maintain water and steam quality.
• Continuously monitoring and controlling Continuous Emissions Monitoring (CEM) values.
• Reporting abnormalities promptly to the Shift Charge Engineer.
• Ensuring all safety, health, and environmental standards, practices, and procedures are strictly followed.
• Maintaining readiness and healthiness of standby equipment and work areas.
• Analyzing root causes of abnormalities or trips and recommending corrective measures.

Additional responsibilities include:

• Proposing ideas for heat rate improvement.
• Working to reduce auxiliary power and demineralized water consumption.
• Targeting reductions in startup fuel consumption.
• Participating in and providing training and refresher courses.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Functional Skills:

• Strong knowledge of thermal power plant operations.
• Hands-on experience with Boiler Distributed Control Systems (DCS).
• Familiarity with boiler commissioning, normal and emergency startup procedures.
• Understanding of boiler protections and interlocks.
• Ability to forecast operational abnormalities and troubleshoot effectively.
• Strong analytical capabilities.

Experience and Educational Background

• Minimum of 5 to 10 years’ experience in boiler operation within thermal power plants.
